OC #1: Preston Lowe/Greenhouse

Preston Lowe AKA Greenhouse

 

Previously a young and ambitious politician, Lowe spoke out against the Nitroglobal fuel company's immoral activities in the disposal of waste products. Due to his interference, the CEO of the company used mafia connections to dispose of Lowe. After being assaulted and kidnapped in his own home in front of his fiancée, Lowe was taken away by a hitman to be killed. Rather than simply shoot him, the hitman used a more poetic approach, locking Lowe in a chamber flooded with the toxins generated by Nitroglobal, and leaving him to asphyxiated and die. However, instead of killing him, the fumes triggered a 'Plus Human' response*, causing his body to adapt suddenly. After escaping, Preston killed his hitman, displaying the ability to manipulate pollutants, before stealing a hazard suit to allow himself to survive. While Nitroglobal was exposed, Lowe found himself unable to survive outside of a breathing suit. Rather than put his loved ones through the strain of coping with his affliction, Lowe let the world think he is dead, while acting as a vigilante, using his powers to fight crime under the alias 'Greenhouse'.

(*a plus human reaction is a concept I created for my OC's origins, by which the human body (under immense struggle) will trigger sudden cell mutations to allow the body to survive or endure the situation, often developing some form of superpower. While useful, the response cannot be reversed, and in many cases leads to debilitating conditions.)
