Year 600-1800 of the Second Age - Númenorean exploration of Middle-Earth
Númenor, a great kingdom of Men, an island raised from the sea as a gift from the Valar early during the Second Age. It lay in the Great Sea between Middle-Earth and Aman. As a reward to their services in the War of Wrath, the Númenoreans were also blessed with long lives and a place to dwell outside the troubled Midle-Earth.
The Númenoreans were forbidden to travel West towards the land of the Valar, and therefore started exploring the eastern part of the world. The first Numenorean ships reached the shores of Middle-Earth in the year 600, in Lindon. They were greeted by Gil-galad and created a strong alliance with the Elves of the West.
Númenor grew to become a naval powerhouse and continued to explore Middle-Earth for many hundreds of years to come, before settling permanently in Eriador and later what would become Gondor and Arnor.
