Alone among others

This is one of my favorite trees, a single beech that bravely holds its own against the dark conifers. I like to photograph it in spring and autumn, when it forms a beautiful contrast to its surroundings. It will soon no longer be alone, because the spruce forest is ailing and is slowly being converted into a mixed forest - in many places also with sweet chestnuts.
