This one most definitely - a Whaup (in Scots) - Curlew - Numenius arquata - calling out with its unmistakable - "cu-cu-cu cur lee". A sound that is Immutable from my childhood memories.
On the North Uist Moors but close to a tidal sea inlet.
Equally adept at hunting for worms, larvae and marine worms on the estuarine shore or on soft peat. They breed on better drained dry moorland.
