Eristalis pertinax - male - large bee mimic hoverfly.

 

Observed on the flower head of a Smooth Hawksbeard in the Wild Flower Meadow.

 

Male - as the eyes meet in the midline. Abt 12mm long. E pertinax is distinguished by the yellow tarsi of front and middle legs. The vein loop is also visible. Genitalia structure is different in the male - even to the eye.

 

Quite a few of these busy in the garden and Wild Flower Meadow yesterday.
