Common Blue Butterfly - Polyommatus icarus
None too common here, though it lives in discrete small colonies on verges and meadows. The males are seen more than the darker females. They combatively patrol their perceived territories in the same colony until the females have been mated.
I watched three males over the Wild Flower meadow this morning, each flying aggressively . Two were seen off, and the third perched obligingly on the very favoured Bird’s-foot-trefoil, to get some strength back into its wings in the morning sunlight.
No breeze was a great blessing to the photo quest, good light with a higher ISO than for the Six Spot Burnets yesterday, gave me a failsafe shutter speed.
The Wild Flower Meadow was absolutely buzzing this morning. A joy to behold, fulfilling all my expectations and considerable work of many years to get it into this flourishing state.
