P6092729 -e1

I have had difficulty making an ID with this creature in previous years. Few photos in the guidebooks show the jaws. These do show for Tenthredo arcuata, a yellow scutellum which maybe out of site in my image.

So- speculatively - Tenthredo arcuata - a wasp mimic sawfly, found on dry grassland and wild flowers meadows. But similar to both Tenthredo notha and Tenthredo brevicornis.

Larva graze white clover.

The adult prey on small insects caught on flower heads - hence the very powerful jaws. They also take pollen and nectar.
