MackyPack On The Edge - Explore 5-14-25

Shot with the vintage Nikon 135mm f/2.8 ai-s. 5 elements in 4 groups. No ED or Aspherical elements. 7 Diaphragm blades.

The NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena, 16 elements in 14 groups. 4 ED elements and 1 Aspherical element. 11 Diaphragm blades and Arneo Coating.

What a difference in optical design, yet, the 135mm f2.8 Ai-s holds it's own in organic/natural rendering and displaying the depth of microcontrast the Plena doesn't have due to it's high element count. Both lens are special but the optical path of the new Nikon lens is clear. Will Nikon ever return to their simpler designs; if their 1.4 offerings are any indication, we will see...
