The Stygian Gloom
70 visited Talbot Road Bus Station for a photo - probably the first time its been inside since 1980!
Someone once described the ambiance of Blackpool's Bus Station as "stygian gloom". At the time I didn't know what this meant but it sounded grim. Later still I had the 'pleasure' of using the staff facilities during 18 months at Blackpool Transport. Trust me if the passenger facilities were felt to be grim, the staff ones were dire.
I finally looked up "Stygian"
1a. Gloomy and dark.
b. Infernal; hellish.
2. Of or relating to the river Styx.
The River Styx, from Greek Mythology means "A river that separates the world of the living from the world of the dead." Sounds right to me!
