Instappen in de wereld van Escher. Dat kan letterlijk in Escher – Andere wereld in Kunstmuseum Den Haag. (…) Zijn beroemde prenten, waarin optische illusies, onmogelijke architectuur, reflectie en natuur centraal staan, worden hier gecombineerd met spectaculaire installaties van het Belgische kunstenaarsduo Gijs Van Vaerenbergh. De wisselwerking tussen Eschers prenten en de ruimtelijke installaties van Gijs Van Vaerenbergh creëert zowel een unieke beleving als een uitdieping van Eschers werk.
(…) Voor deze tentoonstelling, waarin een doorsnede van het oeuvre van M.C. Escher centraal staat, bedacht Gijs Van Vaerenbergh ruimtevullende interventies die met een hedendaagse blik naar het werk van Escher kijken. De ingrepen bestaan uit sculpturale associaties met onder meer lichtheid en zwaarte, tijdelijkheid en eeuwigheid, onmogelijke architectuur en oneindigheid; thema’s die ook centraal staan in het werk van Escher.

Enter the world of Escher. That is literally possible in Escher – Other world in Kunstmuseum Den Haag. (…) His famous prints, in which optical illusions, impossible architecture, reflection and nature are central, are combined here with spectacular installations by the Belgian artist duo Gijs Van Vaerenbergh. The interaction between Escher's prints and the spatial installations of Gijs Van Vaerenbergh creates both a unique experience and a deepening of Escher's work.
(…) For this exhibition, in which a cross-section of the oeuvre of M.C. Escher is central, Gijs Van Vaerenbergh devised space-filling interventions that look at Escher's work from a contemporary perspective. The interventions consist of sculptural associations with, among other things, lightness and heaviness, temporality and eternity, impossible architecture and infinity; themes that are also central to Escher's work.
