Oak Creek Canyon

Oak Creek Canyon is on the edge of the Mogollon Rim, an escarpment that runs in a roughly east-west direction across northern Arizona. Flagstaff is just to the north, Sedona just to the south. The road gains 4500 feet of elevation between Sedona and Flagstaff. This is one the five most scenic drives in the U.S. according to Rand McNally. It’s scenic, all right, if you have time to look on the way down!

This is another photo from the trip my sister and I made in 1955, when I was sixteen years old. My camera was a Leica M3, and the film was Kodachrome 25. I had two lenses, 50mm and 35mm Summicrons. My guess is that this was done with the 35mm. Anne had the 50mm Summicron and a 90mm Elmar. As with all photos on that trip, I metered with a Weston Master II.
