Yosemite Falls

We reached Yosemite in late July of 1956. By all reports, it has become very, very crowded, but my sister and I stayed in a cabin on the Merced River right in the valley. I was sixteen and didn’t know about Ansel Adams till much later. Later, when I shot mostly black and white film, he was my model, not that I ever came with hailing distance of his quality. I’ve been fortunate enough to see a number of original Adams prints. They always seem to me to be sources of light.

At 2435 hundred feet, Yosemite Falls dwarfs any waterfall I’d seen before or have seen since. By comparsion, the highest waterfall in Georgia, where I’ve spent most of my life, is 729 feet high.
