Rain of Light

After years of taking photos within a few steps of my back door, I was recently--and finally!--able to make a trip to one of my favorite places. I've loved Cades Cove (seen in the accompanying black and white photo). It's a long valley nestled against the Great Smoky Mountains in east Tennessee.

There are many stunning views of The Great Smoky Mountains, themselves. Like all great mountain ranges, they offer a apparently limitless aspects at different times of day, in different light, with changes in clouds. These are much older mountains than the more dramatic Rockies and are thus more rounded due to erosion. This shot was made from the Foothills Parkway when the light could hardly have been more inviting.
