Lake Pettit with Duck
Lake Petit is in Big Canoe, a private community in the Appalachian foothills of north Georgia. The photograph was made with a Canon G-III QL. Before the dam was built and this was all dry land, what is now the island shown was a holy site of of the Paleo Native Americans. Nearby is Indian Rocks Park, which sprawls over a hill top. It's impossible to see all the rocks at once, but when lined up, they point to this island. These people also tied trees as they grew--the well-known bent trees of the area--so that they were distorted and pointed toward important locations, like this island. After I no longer had my own darkroom (1983) I shot a lot of Ilford XP 2, and I think this is the film used here.
