Rangsit Floating Market in June 2010, on Rangsit Prayoonsak Canal, Nakhon Nayok road, Thanya Buri, Pathum Thani Province, Thailand.

Having been told this market did not exist, I set out to find it, convinced it did exist. My friend Moo the Taxi driver set off to Rangsit on Saturday 12th June 2010. Around 09.00 am we finally found it. Mueang Rangsit floating market is on the Rangsit riverbank Klong 1, Rangsit - Nakhon Nayok road, Thanya Buri district. It is only 1 kilometre away from Future Park Rangsit department store.

The floating market consists of 11 rafts. Raft 1-2 host an exhibition about the history and lifestyle of the communities on Rangsit Prayoonsak canal. On Raft 3, there are sales booths of OTOP products, such as coconut oil and herbal wax. Raft 4 – 10 have a large array of foods and drinks for sale, especially the renowned Mueang Rangsit boat noodles. Lastly, Raft 11 is where visitors can enjoy Thai massage services by a well-trained group of housewives from Mueang Rangsit municipality.

The landmark of Mueang Rangsit floating market: after crossing over the bridge, visitors will find the market’s fair-sized parking space and a number of cars lining up the roadside. At the parking space, there is a massive arch entrance to the floating market. Since it is the most recognizable structure, visitors constantly take pictures with the arch to remind themselves of their trip. There are several choices of food you can try, including boat noodles, Pad Thai noodles, mussels pancake, papaya spicy salad, fried rice with crab meat, as well as a distinct menu like steak.

We made friends with a couple that owned one of the eating places, husband and wife Kea and Than. We had four different dishes of Thai food, along with beer and water all for 200 Baht ( about £4.30 at the exchange rate then.)

What was noticeable was the cleanliness of the boats and food area’s. The canal was also a beautiful backdrop and was also much cleaner than most other rivers or canals that other Floating Markets reside on.

This Market was truly a great place where many Thai owners had pride in, they were so friendly it made a great start to the day. This is a market everyone should try, to sample the Thai way of life, good Thai food and hospitality from a set of people proud of there Floating Market.

You could after visiting this market spend some time at Dream World nearby and then end up shopping at Future Park, about ten minutes drive away - a great day out in Rangsit. Mueang Rangsit floating market opens daily from 10:00 – 17:00. To get there, catch air-conditioning bus No. 538 and 559, regular bus No. 188, TCL bus Prachin Buri-Ramgsit - Ongkarak.
