Girl's Best Friend
Here's a quick grab using a Nikon D70, an off-camera SB-800, and an off-camera SB-600. The flashes were controlled through IR with the Nikon SU-800 controler. Each flash was placed in small softboxes (the larger of the two is 12"x18").
We really didn't plan this photo, but gave it a quick whirl when she asked if I'd also photograph her with the dog (I was there for the dog!...Don't say it...). I took a $14 piece of black velvet (scrap from fabric store) out of my equipment bag (it's a hockey stick bag on wheels - $39), tossed it over the doggie gate between the living room and the kitchen, and had her crouch down to dog level as I positioned the two lights.
The hand-held camera was set to manual, ISO 400, f8 for decent DOF at this close distance (this is full-frame, cropped in from 2:3) with the Nikon 60mm, and the shutter speed adjusted to 1/160 to get a look in the LCD as I was hoping for. It only took a few pops, and was thrilled to catch the dog looking at her.
