One of the Rolls Royce Merlin engines of the lancaster bomber/reconnaissance aircraft, TX264 which tragically crashed in to Coire Mhic Fearchair, just 15 foot from the top. All eight crew members were sadly killed during the crash in 1951 during a horrendeous snow storm. Sadly the RAF would not accept the help of the civillian mountaineering rescue team. The more experienced RAF montaineering resuce teams came in to existence after lessons learned.

 

Links with information on the tragic flight and also much later news stories of the propellor blades which saved two climbers from a 1,200 foot fall. The reporters made an error in their reporting, that this lancaster was one of the dambusters during World War II:
