Breccia with yellow calcite and a chaotic pattern of Caithness mudstone.
Breccia with yellow calcite and a chaotic pattern of Caithness mudstone.
Breccia with yellow calcite on Reiss beach.
There are different types of breccia classified according to the geological process in which they were formed. All types are made up of angular rock fragments called clasts cemented by finer material or by secondary minerals from circulating groundwater which subsequently filling the voids and cemented the clasts in position. This is a fragment of a fault breccia when the rock formation was split due to seismic activity. The calcium an d carbonate rich fluid ascended from the depths which cemented the clasts when cooled. The clasts are fragments of Devonian mudstones fragmented during faulting and resultant splitting of rock strata.
