Merlin

These little falcons are regular winter visitors here in Missouri but are generally uncommon at best. It was quite a surpise, then, when last week local birders reported finding a roost with six or seven birds at a regional conservation area. I stopped by there Saturday evening and found two birds, while around the same time some of my friends had three in another group of trees. So cool! The only bummer was that the birds only come to the roost areas in the evening when the light is poor, so the shots are pretty high-ISO.
