Edward Munch (1863 - 1944) painted six paintings between 1893 and 1895 and another six between 1916 and 1925 with this motif. The original title of the paintings was “Love and Pain”. The connection to vampirism was first made by his friend Stanisław Przybyszewski, who also coined the title “Vampire”.
