Mozarts Geburtshaus
Mozart's Birthplace at Getreidegasse 9 in Salzburg
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in this house on 27 January 1756 and lived there until the age of 17. His father, Leopold Mozart, was born in Augsburg but moved to Salzburg at the age of 18, where he studied and began a career. He married Anna Maria Pertl, a local woman, and they had seven children, only two of whom survived: Maria Anna (*1751) and the well-known Wolfgang Amadeus.
All of Mozart's ancestors came from Augsburg and the surrounding Bavarian-Swabian region, where some of them left their mark as master builders. That's why my home town of Augsburg is considered a Mozart city alongside Salzburg, where Mozart was born and grew up, and Vienna, where he later lived and died.

Here you can hear Mozart's first original piano concerto, which he composed at the age of 17 (his previous efforts were based on works by other composers): www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_Mq7pddQJA
