The 'Singing Quartet'

Parapet figures of the Vienna Ringtheater (Komische Oper)

Four figures by Friedrich Steger made of calcareous sandstone (c. 1873/74)

Now in the Park of Pötzleinsdorf Palace (Pötzleinsdorfer Schlosspark)

The Ringtheater was completed in 1874 and destroyed by a massive fire with officially 384 dead in 1881. The figures represent the four voice types of singing (from left to right: alto, tenor, soprano, bass). They survived the disaster almost undamaged and were soon afterwards acquired by the owner of Pötzleinsdorf Palace and placed in the park.

Pötzleinsdorf is part of Währing, Vienna's 18th district.
