The Alfa-class or Project 705 Lira was a Soviet nuclear powered attack submarine.
Its was the fastest military submarine with a maximum speed of 43-45 knots (80-83 km/h) submerged.
The hull was made out of titanium and it could dive up to 1300 meters.
It was powered by a liquid metal cooled reactor. This meant that it was able to achieve a very high speed, but it also meant that the reactor could never be turned off.
