Short-eared and Short-legged

This front-on view shows how short this owl's legs and body really are in relation to its wings and head. They also look like they are wearing large false eyelashes.

 

Short-eared owls are not found on Vancouver Island in great numbers. There are only a handful of them that sometimes winter on the Southeast coastal areas, so it is always a treat to find them.
