MILW 2, Milwaukee, WI. MAY 10, 1935, MILWAUKEE ROAD Photo
One can almost imagine how beautiful the newly delivered Class A Atlantic looks, as the golden sun races towards the horizon on this spring afternoon. The Milwaukee Road number 2 looks to have been prepped for service already, seeing that the drive rods are connected and steam wafts around the cylinder cocks. In five days, the 2 spot will take a demonstration trip to New Lisbon for the public to see the new Hiawatha. As the story goes, news of the new Hiawatha making a run to New Lisbon prompted the schools to close for the event. This beautiful roster photo was taken ninety years ago today in the railroads namesake city, Milwaukee, Wisconsin by the company photographer.
