Manning District Pionerring & Construction course 17-18/9/16
by Scout_HC
Manning District have fun with poles and ropes.
On the weekend of the 17th and 18th of September Manning District held our inaugural Pioneering & Construction course. The course is designed to be run concurrently for all 3 levels of the scout award scheme. At the end of the course scouts will have achieved the Construction badge and the requirements for the Campcraft badge at the appropriate level. We had 25 scouts from 1st Forster Tuncurry, 1st Wingham and Taree groups come along and join in the fun with the first day consisting of all the theory, whipping, splicing, knots and lashings. It is always a big day with lots to learn and practice.
The fun bit started on the Sunday morning as we planned and prepared our constructions. We split into 3 groups, built a 6 meter high flagpole, and a dining table and the Adventurer level scouts tackled a 3.5 meter high inverted pyramid tower. It was with great excitement that the flag was flown, scouts ate their lunch at the table and those brave enough scaled the tower.
After such a successful weekend we are looking forward to next years course already.
Many thanks to Stinger & Tornado the Scout Leaders from Forster Tuncurry and Wingham for their invaluable help in running the course.
