Lal Ghamai caresses the hair of his youngest son. His
smile is soft, but sad. He worries about the future of
his children; they were all born into war. He cannot
remember a single day of peace in his country. The
Soviet invasion in 1979, the civil war between the
different Mujahedin factions in the 1990s and then
the austerity of the Taliban regime until 2001. Since
then, the insurgency against the NATO-backed
government has been growing, and now in his
province the Daesh are present.
