Australasian Darter

Anhinga melanogaster

I usually don't manage to get close enough to the pair of Darters in the RGBV to take photos, so I was delighted to spy the male resting on one of the swans' favourite preening spots close to Long Island. It was especially marvellous because planes performing for the Grand Prix were noisily looping the loop over the Gardens. This Darter wasn't deterred from taking his rest, though; he merely stretched and turned his neck every now and then to see what was going on in the sky.
