Viewing platform, Napier, North Island, New Zealand.
A controversial structure which provides views across Hawke's Bay. A steel canopy sits atop concrete encased steel piles hammered 15m into the bedrock. Completed in December 2015, it was actually designed to hide a new stormwater pipe and was never intended to be a pier that goes out over the water. Critics argue that it was a missed opportunity to create a structure ideal for swimming and fishing and a waste of $1.4 million.
