A hazy morning above the exquisite town of Ludlow from Whitcliffe, Shropshire. As Betjeman said, "Probably the loveliest town in England.
Poem.
The peaceful, languid and beautiful River Teme meanders around a steep rocky bluff.
Astride it, stands proudly, the Norman Motte, Bailey, outbuildings and Curtain walls of the majestic Ludlow Castle.
Eastwards, Market Street gently rises to the tower of St. Laurence’s Church.
When clear, the Shropshire Hills, including Clee Hill provide a shapely backcloth to this elegant gem of a town.
Alas, today the morning mist hid the hills.
Over 500 listed buildings enhance this superb market town
from Plantagenet monarchies through Tudor, Jacobean, Georgian and Regency Monarchies.
It is an architectural masterclass.
Sir John Betjeman, Poet Laureate, said of Ludlow,
“It is probably the loveliest town in England.”
I totally agree.
Utterly stunning.
Simply superb.
Iconic to the nth. degree.
