Gortenfern Forest and the mountains meet the sea. There are nine separate beaches here from 20 metres wide to over half a mile. Probably the cleanest and most wildly beautiful I have ever seen, and sand dunes up to 100 feet high, Ardnamurchan, Scotland.

Poem.

Oh, such raw, simple, starkly wild splendour.

Fern and bracken.

Succulent shrubs and bushes.

Rhododendron.

Spruce forest.

Rocky headlands.

Brilliant white shell-sand beaches of Kentra Bay,

Camas an Lighe and Cul na Croise-the singing sands.

Sand dunes blown into mounds in the forest a hundred feet high.

Mountains like Sgurr Dhomhuill Mor and beyond that, Rhois-Bheinn, shrouded in morning cloud, above the luscious, verdant slopes and channels of Loch Moidart.

Unspoiled.

Majestic.

Pristine.

With alluring views to the shapely islands of Rum, Eigg and Muck, across the Sound of Arisaig.

This place is good for the soul.

Peace, tranquillity, solitude.

A sense of oneness with this staggeringly beautiful, natural world.
