Ballard Down and the beautiful Swanage Bay in High Summer, Dorset, England.

Commentary.

I have very happy memories of Swanage going right back to the 1970’s.

Set between the chalk hills of Ballard Down and the limestone hills of the Purbeck Hills this sandy two-mile long beach, and its hinterland, is sublime.

Beach-huts, hotels,

apartments, boarding-houses,

promenade, High Street,

landing-pier, harbour

and many delectable views make this a very popular Dorset destination.

The National Rail Service from Wareham was lost in the “Beeching” cuts of the early 1960’s.

In recent years volunteers have worked very hard to re-establish the line.

This just adds another visitor attraction to this superb Dorset bay.

It seems as popular now as it was all those years ago.

It certainly gets my vote as a splendid place to visit and enjoy.
