Sunset on a mirror-like Loch Eilt.

Commentary.

Loch Lomond, Loch Maree, Loch Morar, Loch Awe,

Loch Etive, Loch Tay, Loch Ness….

With over thirty thousand other lochs and lochans

in Scotland, what if someone asked me:-

“Of the hundreds you’ve seen,

which, so far, is your favourite?”

I might be tempted to answer, “This one, Loch Eilt.”

A mere three miles long and at

its widest only half a mile across.

Skirted on the north shore by the A.830,

“The Road to the Isles,”

and on the southern shore by the “Potter” line,

it is exquisitely beautiful.

Here, at 20:00, well before sunset, in June,

the fair weather cloud and the northern hills

block the sun as it slowly arcs towards the north-west.

This darkens the foreshore prematurely,

perfect for reflections on such a still, warm, balmy day.

Of a marvellous eighteen hours of daylight,

there is still 2-3 more to enjoy!

Oh, to be on the west coast in June.

The ultimate prize.
