Confluence

Meeting of the Fraser

& Thompson Rivers

Lytton, B.C.

I've always thought this was an amazing sight -- the mingling of the muddy, murky waters of the Fraser River with the deep blue waters of the Thompson, coming in from beneath the bridge at the right.

The mixing of the waters carries on for a while but by about a kilometre downstream the waters have all mixed and bear no trace of the Thompson, looking every bit as muddy and murky as if nothing had ever happened to change the mighty Fraser.

On the right bank of the Fraser, just above where the rivers meet, you can see a river raft coming in to a pick up point. Two or three river rafting companies ply the waters of both rivers but mainly the Thompson. There are some nice rapids about 15 km upstream.

Farther upstream in the Fraser, you may be able to make out the Lytton reaction ferry. It is attached to an overhead cable and is powered by the action of the river current.
