The ghosts of Tranquille

Tranquille,

Kamloops, B.C.

As one might guess from its various names -- King Edward Tuberculosis Sanatorium, Tranquille School, Padova City, Tranquille-on-the-Lake, Tranquille Farm Fresh -- the place has had an interesting history.

It was opened in 1907 as a hospital for tuberculosis patients and was its own independent community comprising some 40 buildings including staff dormitories, private residences, an elementary school and several farm buildings. A system of underground tunnels connects many of the buildings.

There may not be spectres floating between the buildings but the place is haunted, at the least, by the settlement's various iterations evidenced on the walls of the now decaying buildings.

Something always calls out to me to take a picture from this vantage point though I have many already. Each looks a bit different though. The main difference right now is the size of the "lake". Most of the time it is a small pond here but high waters have swelled it till it merges with the river over to the far left of the shot.
