Madrid 22/04/2017: La sede della Comunidad de Madrid in Piazza del Sol
This impressive eighteenth-century building, built between 1766 and 1768, during the reign of Charles III, stands in Porta del Sol's square. It is currently the seat of the Presidency of the Community of Madrid, but originally was the seat of the Post Office. The work of the French architect Jaques Marquet is rectangular and inside it houses two large courtyards. On the façade, white stone and brick, stands the large access door, with a balcony and a high relief with the real shield of Charles III.
The central tower, crowned by the famous clock that welcomes the new year on January 1, was built in the 19th century. This building has been the direct witness of great historical events such as the War of Independence against the French Army or the proclamation of the Second Republic in 1931.
On the sidewalk in front of the building is the kilometer 0, from which all Spanish radial roads and numbering of the streets of Madrid depart.
An impressive rite marks the arrival of the New Year at Puerta del Sol. Just before midnight, a huge carillon goes down in the Palace of the Post Office clock, then the cuartos (4 double taps) are then scanned, then the bells, Every 3 seconds, in which a grape of grapes is to be eaten, at the end of them, lights up the Feliz XXXX luminous sign that starts the new year. Since 1962 this ritual has been broadcast live on TV first by TVE and then by other networks, but only since the '90s it also includes conductors; In 1997 it was conducted for TVE by Raffaella Carrà, called at the last minute to side one of the historic conductors of the event, Ramón García.

Nella piazza di Porta del Sol spicca questo imponente edificio del XVIII secolo, costruito tra il 1766 e il 1768, durante il regno di Carlo III. Attualmente è la sede della Presidenza della Comunità di Madrid, ma in origine era la sede delle Poste. Opera dell’architetto francese Jaques Marquet, è a pianta rettangolare e all’interno ospita due grandi cortili. Sulla facciata, in pietra bianca e mattoni, spicca la grande porta di accesso, con un balcone e un altorilievo con lo scudo reale di Carlo III.
La torre centrale, coronata dal famoso orologio che dà il benvenuto al nuovo anno il 1 gennaio, venne costruita nel XIX secolo. Questo edificio è stato testimone diretto di grandi eventi storici, come la guerra di Indipendenza contro l’esercito francese o la proclamazione della II Repubblica nel 1931.
Sul marciapiede davanti all’edificio è indicato il chilometro 0, dal quale partono tutte le strade radiali spagnole e la numerazione delle strade di Madrid.
Un suggestivo rito scandisce l'arrivo del nuovo anno a Puerta del Sol. Poco prima della mezzanotte, un enorme carillon scende nell'orologio del Palazzo delle Poste, successivamente vengono scanditi prima i cuartos (4 doppi rintocchi), poi le campanadas, cioè un rintocco ogni 3 secondi nel quale va mangiato un chicco d'uva, alla fine di esse, si accende l'insegna luminosa Feliz XXXX che dà il via al nuovo anno. Dal 1962 tale rito è trasmesso in diretta tv prima da TVE poi dalle altre reti, ma solo dagli anni '90 esso prevede anche dei conduttori; nel 1997 è stato condotto per TVE da Raffaella Carrà, chiamata all'ultimo minuto ad affiancare uno dei conduttori storici dell'evento, Ramón García.
