Parseval-type kite balloon with Stewart Long
me and Stewart built a kite balloon, rigging it like a Parseval-type kite balloon, with the weight of the camera in the back and the line attached up front, holding it at about 10 degrees vertical into the wind.

The wings are taken from a styrofoam glider. Not pictured was a 12" vertical stabilizer fin we added at the back of the balloon for the second flight. it wasn't attached very well, but served its purpose.
This balloon proved that with stabilizing structures a camera can be taken to 1000ft on only one sleeping bag full of helium. That said, using the camera as a stabilizing weight at the back made it swing around quite a lot, and this design may not be the best at this scale.
