The Diversion
Even when you plan ahead, life still throws in surprises.
I had a medical appointment to attend and someone kindly offered to give a lift as the parking is 'interesting'. I hate being late, so left at a time which would give me 15-20 minutes waiting time if all went well but left some time in case of traffic.
We were about halfway there, about 150 yards from a large roundabout on a dual carriageway when traffic ground to a halt. Cars then moved hard to the left and right to allow a number of ambulances and paramedics a path down the middle. Then engines got turned off. An hour passed, now long past my appointment, when the police decided finally the road was being closed for some time.
Cars were made to turn round and go back the wrong way up the dual carriageway and were being turned into a small residential side turning to find another way. This left loads of buses and a few trucks stranded - the photo is of us going the wrong way up the road passing lines of buses with nowhere to go.
