Change

When I used slide film, I used to say my slides would be better off in a drawer for some years and then brought out to see how areas have changed,

Change however, seems to be speeding up. The building on the extreme left (the bakery), has now gone completely and a new building is under construction; at the moment they are digging a new basement for it. The bank next to it has just shut its doors for the last time this month - a terrible blow to any area when a bank goes - and this is just under three years since this photo was taken. The bank has been there as long as people can remember.

In the distance, there is an echo of the past with an iconic London RT bus (off to a display & ride day at the former terminus at the hotel a couple of minutes down the road), these RT buses went up and down this road daily from the 1950s into the 1970s.

It's important to record your area as it is today. You think as you walk around daily it isn't changing, but looking back over decades of photos & slides its shown me how much it does, without you realising it.
