The Raven

Until the early or mid-sixties political activity was not allowed ("Rule 17") on California campuses. This may have been true in other states too. Motivated in part by opposition to the House Un-American Committee (HUAC), in part by sympathy with the Cuban Revolution, in part by a specific event on their campus, and in part by a general wish to achieve greater freedom of expression, several students at El Camino College published this paper and passed it out on campus early one morning. The famous movement along these lines--the Free Speech Movement--occurred later at U C Berkeley.
