Roy opened his eyes; he was obviously in a warehouse of some sort. He felt groggy, like he’d just woken up from a mid-afternoon nap and didn’t know what day it was. He tried to move, but his hands were restrained. He looked to his left and saw Evelyn and Helena. He tilted his head back, groaning into the bright spotlight that shone down on the three of them. He’d fallen asleep sitting up, tied to a chair; he had a crick in his neck.
“Hey, sleeping beauty.” He looked over and saw Evelyn with a black eye, giving him a killer smile. He felt an unexpected sense of rage. He would kill whoever had hurt her…
Suddenly he jolted. He remembered everything; the fight in the living room, the bump to his head, the masked men taking Helena and Evelyn prisoner; he started breathing heavily, adrenaline bringing him to life.
“Hey, easy,” Evelyn said softly. “They haven’t done anything to us yet.
“The key word being ‘yet’, Helena added. “We don’t know who they are; we haven’t seen them since waking up.”
“How long have you guys been up?” Roy asked.
“I woke up first, about half an hour ago,” Evelyn said, her voice like silk. How could she be so calm? “Helena woke up about 10 minutes ago.”
She and Roy met eyes. Despite her calmness, Roy saw the fear in her eyes and felt a rush inside him; he wouldn’t let anything happen to her. He had to protect her and get them both out alive, for the sake of their child. Roy struggled against the restraints.
“It’s no use, I’m afraid.” A man stepped out of the gloom permeating most of the room, dragging someone with him…
Yin.
Roy’s eyebrows shot up. So Yin had survived. He glanced between Yin and the man dragging him; he didn’t have the mask on, but had two swords behind his back, so it was probably...Komodo? Was that what Yin had called him?
Komodo threw Yin and the floor in front of them. For a desperate second he and Roy locked eyes, and Roy knew it then; they were screwed.
“You’re probably wondering what I want with your city,” Komodo started. Roy mustered all the hate he could into one look; he wouldn’t do any talking. Komodo chuckled.
“Not a talker, eh? Well, let me cut right to the chase; Star City has something we want. We know you won’t let us take it, so might I propose you join us? You are, after all, one of the, ah, guardians of the city? Arsenal?”
The blood drained from Roy’s face. His eyes went wide but he stared at the ground, despite feeling Helena and Evelyn’s stares.
“Ahh, very interesting,” Komodo continued. “Your friends don’t know. I suppose, then, that they didn’t know Connor Queen is-or was-the Green Arrow?” This time Evelyn let out an audible gasp.
“Is… is this true Roy?”
“Evelyn, now isn’t the time-”
“I killed him,” Komodo interrupted. Finally Roy met his eyes. “I killed Connor. I stabbed him and threw him out of the top floor of his office building. You’re the only one left. Join us, and you could profit greatly.”
“What do you even want?” Roy spat. The audacity of this guy! Out him and Connor as Arsenal and Green Arrow, admit to killing Connor, then ask them to join him? Never!
“What you may not understand,” Komodo said, “is that Star City sits on a vast reservoir of dionesium, a rare chemical component that, essentially, can bring someone back to life.”
Roy stared at him then giggled nervously.
“You’re joking, right? That can’t be real.”
“It is,” Yin said. “It’s what brought me back after the explosion.” Roy gaped at him.
“You can’t be serious-nothing can bring dead people back. Nothing.”
“I assure you it’s real,” Komodo said. “Join us, and I’ll allow you to have some; you could bring Connor back, or maybe your fathe-”
“Shut up!” Roy snapped. “I’ll never join you. You killed Connor! I think-I think I speak for all of us-” he looked at Helena and Evelyn who nodded “-that we’ll refuse your offer. Thank you.”
“Are you sure?” Komodo insisted. “You could bring him back.”
“If you killed him once, you’ll kill him again. Especially because I know he’d never join you.” Komodo sighed, almost seeming sad. He motioned and a few more men stepped out of the dark.
“Very well, then. Execute them.”
