IWP: Green Arrow 1.2

My name is Connor Queen. After my father died of cancer, I discovered he wasn’t who I thought he was; he was the masked saviour of Star City, a Hero called the Green Arrow. After avenging my mother’s death and killing her killer I vowed to continue my father’s crusade to make Star City a better place.

I stared at him in shock, my jaw hanging open.

“You’re Yin?!” I asked in astonishment. I’d heard about him, from John, and also from Bruce Wayne… he’d given his life to save my father while he was stranded on the island.

“B-but… aren’t you supposed to be dead?!” He chuckled again.

“Death isn’t as permanent as people think.” Ooo-kay. So this guy was weird.

“How’d you… how’d you survive?” He chuckled again.

“I, uh, I don’t remember...” I took a step forward.

“How come you haven’t visited? How do I even know you’re really him?”

“Your father’s name is Oliver Queen. I saved his life, pushing him off a boat before it exploded and told him not to waste his life.” Okay. This guy’s story did match up with what I’d heard from John…

“I suppose there aren’t any photos of you and dad lying around at my house, are there?” I grumbled. “What do you want, anyways?”

He came closer to me, his eyes wide, almost pleading.

“I want to get to know you. Oliver was a close friend of mine, and seeing as he’s gone and you’re all that’s left of his legacy, I feel it is my duty to be your friend and advisor.”

I backed up. Alright then. Looks like he was getting personal right from the get-go.

“Look, uh, I don’t mean to be rude; but I’m 18 now, I can take care of myself, and besides, I got a sort of adopted father at home…”

“May I meet him?”

I grimaced. John didn’t take kindly to visitors. “Let me call him first.”

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It took some convincing, but John eventually let me take Yin to the mansion. Granted, he had his gun trained on him the entire time, but it was a start.

I opened up the lair for Yin and let him look around. When he got to the island room (which I’d rearranged over the last couple months), he stared in awe at all the artifacts. He grabbed the sword that was kept displayed. He went up to his suit in the glass, putting his hand against it. A thousand memories passed before his eyes in a heartbeat. As John wheeled in to join us, he turned back to, misty-eyed.

“It-it’s been so long…this suit isn’t the original; it’s a replica. But a good one too.”

John and I glanced at each other.

“So… how did you say you survived?” John asked. Yin’s eyes went to the ground and he fidgeted nervously.

“Like, uh, like I said-I don’t remember. I just woke up a couple days ago outside of Star City; I remembered Oliver telling me about the city and went looking for him; but I learned he was dead and that he also had a son.” Finally, he raised his eyes to us.

“May I stay for a few days? You will hardly notice I’m here.”

John and I had a silent exchange. He did save my father’s life, after all. And if he was lying, we could at least keep him under surveillance here. John nodded.

“I don’t see why that’s a problem.”
