Batman vol 1.2
We were standing on top of a rooftop, dark angels in the night. Nightwing, Robin and I waited in silence for our target to pass by. Finally, it did; the white Lexcorp van meandered by, and I looked at Nightwing and Robin and nodded; we knew what to do.
Lexcorp was up to something; Lex Luthor had become increasingly secluded, to the point where almost no one saw him out in public. He went from tabloid magnete and the song with a future to old recluse. Of course, his father’s death must have had an impact on him. But that had been years ago, now-almost 7.
What intel I had gathered told me that Lexcorp had been working with the meteor rock from Smallville, Kansas that had crashed during the meteor storm about 20 years ago. It seemed Lex had a long-stemming obsession with the meteor rocks, often mumbling about “Clark” and conducting experiments. Tonight we were going to try to finally see what he was up to.
I launched myself off the building, gliding down through the chilly November air onto the truck. I landed with a slight thump, and motioned for Robin and Nightwing to do their part.
Ahead of the truck they leaped down onto the road. The lights illuminated them and the truck stopped. The back door opened and some goons came out, but I was ready for them. I jumped down and started beating them. One took a swing at me and I ducked it as I sent him crashing into another man. A third guy took a shot as me but I dodged it just in time as I smacked his head against the door. The second guy lunged at me but I jumped up and kicked him in the face as behind me I heard Nightwing take out the driver and whoever else was in the front. I saw a flash of red and turned to see Robin take out the first man who was about to shoot me. He knocked him down with his staff and raised it again to hit him when I grabbed his wrist.
“Watch yourself,” I commanded gruffly. Robin scowled and pulled away from my grasp.
We circled around the to front of the truck. Nightwing kicked the scruffy looking thug’s unconscious body.
“These aren’t the polished men I thought Lex would want for his business,” he remarked.
“None of the guys except the driver had Lexcorp uniforms,” Nightwing stated. “Do you think Luthor’s buying the meteor rock illegally?”
“It could be a possibility,” I agreed. “We’ll have to do some more investigating to be sure though.”
“Right,” I said. “You take the rock back to base and get an analysis on it. Jason, come with me, we’ll see where the truck was going.”
Merry Christmas everyone!
