Green Arrow vol 1.12
My name is Connor Queen. Following the death of my father Oliver, I discovered that he wasn’t who I thought he was. He was the saviour of Star City, a masked hero known as the Green Arrow. I intend to continue his mission of saving the innocent from those who do harm and fulfill his legacy; this is my story.
PREVIOUSLY: After being rescued by his mother and John, Connor and them were confronted by Onomatopoeia, who claimed to be a son of Dinah’s that she mothered while Oliver was on the island. After repeatedly denying it, Dinah was shot by him, and he fled into the night.
We burst into the layer, me frantically opening doors so John could carry my mother, whose wound was still bleeding badly despite being bandaged as best as it could. I scrambled about, peeling off my destroyed costume and looking for a table to set her down on.
“John! We need something to heal her!”
“There might be something in the Island Room,” he responded. I shot him a quizzical look. This was no time for games!
“The Island Room?”
He sighed. “Follow me.”
He lead me to a wall, set my mother down and pressed his hand in a certain spot on the wall, and it opened, revealing a room I had never seen before. He picked up Mom again and brought her in, setting her on a table. I followed him in, shooting curious glances around. It seemed to be an interesting room, but I was distracted by our present situation.
“We have to help her. What could be in here that could help?” I asked. My eyes were nervously shooting from my mother to various points around the room, landing on things such as a sword, a red variant of the Green Arrow suit, and a statue. John swfitly opened a crate and produced a box of needles. He took one out and looked me straight in the eye.
“Connor, your father and I had to use this once, when a man named Deadshot put a bullet in him. It worked, but we had more time; it was closer to home.” I nodded earnestly. “It’s the only thing we have left,” John continued, “if this can’t save her, nothing can.” With that, he rolled up her sleeve and plunged the needle into her arm. After, he placed more towels on the wound to try to stop the bleeding.
Now all we could do was wait.
To pass the time, John told me about the room. “It’s dedicated to his time on the island, kind of a trophy room, and a reminder of everything he went through.” He pointed to two suits set in glass cases, on that looked like a military uniform and the red Green Arrow-looking suit.
“Those two suits are associated with the island: the uniform was Yin’s, a Chinese assassin put on the island as punishment.”
“What happened to him?”
“He’s dead now, he sacrificed his life to save Oliver’s, and is the reason Oliver became the Green Arrow. With his last words, Lin told Oliver not to waste his life.” I nodded, trying my best to stay calm; freaking out wouldn’t help at all. I pointed to the red suit, and tried to keep my voice steady.
“W-what’s that one for?” I asked. John cocked his head to the sideand squinted, as if seeing it for the first time.
“Oliver was more vague about that one; he said he used it ‘when needed’, whatever that means. Personally, I think it was Yin’s assassin suit he used.” John shrugged. “But the most we can do is guess.”
With that, Mom suddenly gasped, and all hell broke loose; the false calm I was feeling was stripped away and immediatley I was at her side.
“Mom! MOM!” Her eyes were wide, as if glimpsing the pearly gates. I grabbed her hand.
“Mom, I’m here!” Her wide eyes suddenly trained on me. I felt my heart beat faster and faster.
“MOM!”
She looked at John.
“Ta-taaake... care... o–”
She went limp and her eyes and mouth closed, as she slipped out of this life and into the next one as my world was shattered before me, and anger began to fill in the cracks.
“YOU WILL PAY!!!!”
