diva in the meadow

the stain of love

is upon the world:

red, yellow, green;

it eats into the leaves,

smears with saffron

the flowered branches

that lean heavily

against an ocean of sky!

There is little light,

mostly a honey-thick stain

that drips from leaf to leaf

from limb to limb

coloring the twilight—

then sweetly, a soft wind

carries her song. . .
