Maroon Bells sunset from Crater Lake

Last weekend I went on a backpacking trip that started at the West Maroon Pass trail head just outside of Crested Butte, Colorado. The trail ends at Maroon Lake which is just outside of Aspen. Just over 12 miles. This is a very scenic trail that takes you through a portion of the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness Area. I knew there was a storm on its way and with temperatures dropping to the low 20’s there was sure to be some snow on the peaks. Sure enough, it snowed almost the whole day. The hike ended up taking me over 7 hours to complete. Mind you my pack was extremely heavy with all my camping, and camera gear. I arrived at Crater Lake, as exhausted as I was, just in time to set up my tent and hurry down to the water to find a spot to get this shot. Boots 100% saturated with no chance of drying out by the morning at all. Silver dollar size blisters on both heals. Knees that were extremely mad at me for what I did. However, at the end of all that I was rewarded with this beautiful scene and one of the best sunsets I could of hoped for. Best part, I was the only one there other than a few people way at the other end of the lake. Worth it? You bet ya!
