Nature has claimed the head of a Buddha statue near the entrance to the ruins of Wat Mahathat in Ayutthaya, which is part of Ayutthaya Historical Park. Ayutthaya was the ancient capital of the southern Kingdom of Siam from 1350 until it was sacked by the Burmese in 1767. Scattered around the temple are some important remains.
