The true value of a Crown, and your half of it. When d became p!

A half crown was worth two shillings and sixpence (2/6) in the pre-decimal currency system, which was the equivalent of 12.5 pence in the modern decimal system. You would find eight half crowns in one Pound Sterling.

To understand its value:

A Crown: was worth five shillings.

A Half Crown: was literally half of that, making it two shillings and sixpence.

A Pound (£): was equal to twenty shillings.

Therefore, two shillings and sixpence was the same as one-eighth (1/8) of a pound.

Historical Context:

Half crowns were a common British coin for centuries, with production continuing until 1967.

The coin was officially demonetised in 1970, just before the UK fully adopted its decimal currency system in 1971.
