The Rose Garden of the Princess / A Hercegné rózsakertje

The park of the Esterházy Castle in Fertőd is one of the most beautiful compositions of European Baroque garden architecture. Its rose garden is beautiful when in bloom, and it was restored in 2015 based on scientific documentation of garden history. Nearly eight thousand rose bushes are in full bloom at this time.
The rose garden is named after Princess Margit Cziráky.
When Prince Miklós Esterházy (IV) and his wife, Margit Cziráky, moved to Eszterháza in the early 1900s, the old splendor of the fairytale-like castle built in the 1760s had already faded. In the more than one hundred years that have passed, the castle, which was no longer inhabited by the descendants, was demolished, and the building and its surroundings began to fall into disrepair. Water seeped in on the roof, and sheep were kept in the most beautiful room of the castle, and weeds overcame the castle's former magnificent park.. until 1902, the arrival of Princess Margit Cziráky. At that time, the castle park was put in order and she ordered the creation of the rose garden. On behalf of the ducal couple, the plans for part of the castle gardens were drawn up by Anton Umlauft, one of the best-known gardeners of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, and the rose garden was completed in 1908. The Rose Garden was recently renovated with European Union funds based on an authentic formal reconstruction.
A fertődi Esterházy-kastély parkja az európai barokk kertépítészet egyik legszebb kompozíciója. Virágzáskor gyönyörű a rózsakertje, melyet kerttörténeti tudományos dokumentációk alapján állítottak helyre 2015-ben. Közel nyolcezer rózsatő pompázik ilyenkor.
A rózsakert Cziráky Margit hercegné nevét viseli.
Mikor Esterházy (IV.) Miklós herceg és felesége, Cziráky Margit az 1900-as évek elején Eszterházára költözött, az 1760-as években épített meseszép kastély régi pompája már erősen megfakult. Az eltelt több mint száz év alatt az utódok által már nem lakott kastélyt széthordták, az épület és környezete enyészetnek indult. A tetőn becsurgott a víz, a kastély legszebb termében pedig birkát tartottak és felverte a gaz a kastély egykori pompás parkját is. Egészen 1902-ig, Cziráky Margit hercegné érkezéséig. Ekkor a kastélyparkot rendbe tették és ő alakíttatta ki a rózsakertet is. A hercegi pár megbízásából a kastélykertek egy részének terveit az Osztrák-Magyar Monarchia egyik legismertebb kertésze, Anton Umlauft készítette, a rózsakert 1908-ra készült el. A Rózsakertet hiteleles formai rekonstrukció alapján újították meg nemrégiben európai uniós forrásból.
