World Expo 88!
Back in 1988, Brisbane in Queensland was the host city for World Expo which ran for 6 months from April to October. I was lucky enough to visit in the middle of the season and remember it as wonderfully bright (despite this rainy day), colourful and exciting. I remember queues too and standing in long lines to see all the wonderful exhibits, but it was all worth it. This shot was taken from the Expo site on the South Bank of the Brisbane River and shows the Brisbane skyline as it was back then. I just looked at this view on Google Streetview and it is as you might expect, considerably different now some 35 years later.
We stayed until night time on several occasions and the large white shapes in the river were wonderfully and brightly lit from within and added a huge amount to the bright night-time splash of colour from all the neon lighting that was all through the site.
I was at this time living in Adelaide, but a little seed must have been planted by our visit here and within 3 years, we had moved to live on the Gold Coast, and I found myself driving buses from there to Brisbane on a daily basis and travelling along the riverside expressway on the right of this image!
This colour slide was scanned with a Canon R10, 24-240 zoom lens with Nisi close up attachment. Cool white LED backlighting.
Original camera was a Pentax Zoom 70 using Kodachrome 100 colour slide film.
